I think I know what happened: I use mutt, which I have setup to open vim
when composing mail, and I might've accidentally pressed C-w when
pressing C-e to scroll through the mail to proofread before sending. And
I have C-w mapped to trim trailing whitespace!

Sorry about that :)

I'll disable that keymap when in vim via mutt to prevent future mishaps.
